Police in Spain will soon be able to tell if a mobile phone is being used while driving.

The use of mobile phones while driving is one of the leading cause of accidents and numerous studies and traffic accidents show that mobile use while driving is causing accidents, especially now there are so many applications that divert people´s attention longer.

In America the police are using the tool Textalyzer in cases of traffic accidents. Textalyzer is a system that allows entry into a phone to find out whether it was being used at the time of an accident. It cannot see the content itself, but it helps identify phone use in the moments before a collision.

In the US, the use of a mobile phone while driving is to blame for almost 30% of accidents across the country. In Spain this figure is 40%, and mostly because of messaging applications like WhatsApp.

The DGT in Spain has also announced that they can now use radar to tell if a driver is using a mobile phone while driving and that these are now monitoring over 200 roads in Spain and set to spread. These started 1st June and work differently so no flash will be seen. They are based on infrared photography so can be used at night etc.

So please be careful or you will be caught by the new sanctions.
