What is happening at Corvera Aiport?

It is a shame that last week it was announced that Ryanair is withdrawing it’s flights from Murcia Corvera aiport to Luton and East Midlands and allocating them to Alicante in future. This is with effect from the Autumn and means there will be no flights from Luton to Corvera, probably infuriating people close to Murcia and the Costa Calida, whereas the East Midlands clients still have Jet2.

Reviewing this a little, it does appear that it may be just that the bookings for Corvera are looking weak for Corvera for the coming Autmn and with oil prices being now higher, airlines have to consider the cost effectiveness of routes and or course Alicante and Corvera are barely an hour apart.

Unfortunately the newspapers are fairly disparaging, with El Confidencíal saying that The Murcian government spent a fortune on the terminal, further away from the coast, 265 millon euros and yet it has less traffic than San Javier. They state that flights have fallen by 10% but some could argue that is also because of other factors.

Many estate agents say location, location, location. Maybe Corvera was not the best location for an airport, or maybe time will tell and it is very early days for the flight schedules.

The facts are a great deal of money was spent, they achieved opening it, with AENA managing it (a fact Castellon airport did not) and they are slowly but surely improving facilities, with a large Subway now open in the departure lounge. It is just a shame that flights are falling between the UK and Spain. That said, there are new routes opening with other airlines other than Ryanair to other new destinations.

In a highly competitive air market, no airline without government subsidies can afford to fly with many empty spaces. Alicante is proving to be a destination more demanded by airlines, perhaps because of consumer unfamilarity with Corvera.

The Murcian authorities insist that there is sufficient demand in their region and they are connected for now with the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Austria, Poland and Norway, with companies such as Ryanair, EasyJet or Tuifly.

Time will tell whether the 260 million invested by the Murcian Government has been worth it or the Corvera airport has been a very expensive disaster and we will be left eventually with only Alicante serving the two neighbouring regions. Let us hope not.

However, to finish on a positive note, there are four new routes starting this month to Asturias, Warsaw, Palma de Mallorca and Prague, so let us hope it is the start of many more new routes from Corvera, particularly to English speaking countries.

If we can assist with helping you purchase property in the Alicante or Murcia region or any other issues please let us know.

Corvera Airport is situated far from most towns except for Murcia residents .
As flights arrive late at night even to Car Hire companies are situated out of sites and not easy to find so this airport is a waste of time for people travelling from U.K.
The San Xavier airport was more convient for more traveller from United Kingdom. Also car hire was available at the airport with lots of lighting.
Corvera airport is not easy to get to except for people living in Murcia
    A great SHAME

Corvera is great. Much better than San Javier. The car hire is easy and many daytime flights

      Thanks, Diane.
Ryanair is certainly promoting flights to Corvera from Ireland this year.
