Nesting Birds

Once swallows or house martins have nested in the eves of your house, they will return every year to nest again. They are attracted to the shelter of overhangs and especially love stucco/cement plaster walls where the mud sticks so well. I know they are lovely to watch and listen to but not if they are making a mess every day outside your front door. Pressure washing the nests will work (obviously please not with eggs or babies) but that has to be every day for a few weeks, which is a lot of effort. I found that the best thing to deter birds from nesting in my porch was to hang an old CD disk from a piece of string or strong cotton, the breeze makes it swing and reflects, they do not like the unknown, and it works quite well, without harming the birds.
