We’ll handle the paperwork directly with Tráfico (DGT) and pay any taxes due on your behalf. During the transfer process, we issue you with a Justificante regarding change of ownership. This is important, the original vehicle documents are sent away during the process.
Transfer Process
Generally, the buyer is responsible for the transfer process, which includes paying the transfer tax. However, sometimes the seller looks after this, ENSURE you agree this in advance of finalising the sale. SUMA road tax MUST be fully up to date and paid, this responsibility firmly sits with the seller (A transfer of the ownership cannot take place if there is outstanding SUMA).
It is crucial the transfer process is completed, if the vehicle remains in sellers name, they are liable for future fines, road tax, and civil responsibility.
Contrato de Compra-Venta de Vehiculos Usados
A Contrato de Compra-Venta de Vehiculos Usados (A Used Vehicle Purchase-Sale Contract) must be completed. This is provided to Tráfico (DGT) as part of the transfer process. The contract must be signed by both parties. Be sure to include the date of the signing, as this can be very important in case of a dispute.
Documents Required to do a change of Vehicle Ownership
1). ITV (Original)
2). Log book (Original)
3). Signed Contract of Sale (Original) We can provide a contrato template as part of our service, if you require one
4). Passport and NIE from the seller & buyer (Copy)
5). Water or electricity bill or Padron in the buyers name (Copy, no more than 6 months old)
6). Last road tax invoice (no more than 6 months old)
7). Mandato (Signed by the buyer provided as part of our service)
Vehicle Debt
We always recommend buyers check the vehicle has no outstanding debts or liens, if it does, these could be transferred to the new owner. Spanish Solutions can provide a “Informe Detallado” which shows if the vehicle is debt free.
