Spain celebrates Easter Week much more than most European countries and Semana Santa is probably the most important festival on the Spanish calendar.

From 25th March until 1st April 2018 Semana Santa will completely dominate Spain, so no matter where you are, there’ll be something to commemorate the Resurrection. Seville and Malaga are the main places to visit and watch the processions, usually starting Palm Sunday and going on until Easter Sunday.

During Holy week, the Cofradías (Brotherhoods or Fraternities) have processions carrying floats with the representations of Christ and Mary.

Other places to visit with Semana Santa events a bit closer than Seville or Malaga are Cartagena, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Alicante and Murcia.

Check out this website in English for Easter in Cartagena: www.murciaturistica.es , Orihuela’s is in Spanish but easy to understand: www.semanasantaorihuela.com

Here is a good one on Torrevieja www.eurotourguide.com, one for Alicante: www.eurotourguide.com/alicante  and finally Murcia: www.spain.info

Why not take a day trip or a few days break and enjoy one of Spain´s best-loved religious spectacles?
