Several people have mentioned that they love fishing (of course, it is such a popular sport) and the freshwater fishing is apparently fantastic in Spain. We were going to detail how to obtain your licences (the Guardia Civil are rather hot here on this), but one of the main fishing clubs on the Costa Blanca has a fantastic page on this here http://carp-r-us.weebly.com/licences.html. One thing we would mention is that although non residents do need a NIE number and Carp-R-Us suggest you can get that at the Embassy in your own country, we at Spanish Solutions can arrange this very simply here in one day. You just need to make an appointment with us and to have a passport photograph. Contact Amanda on enquiries@spanishsolutions.net for more details.
I have also been told Abbey Fishing Club is very good and the link to their website is here: http://abbeyangling.com/
One place we would suggest visiting is the lovely Pedrera Reservoir. There is free fishing with a local licence and you can catch bass, zander and pike. It is easy to access the lake and it is fairly flat so can be fished from the bank. You can access the lake from many points, an easy one being the road that goes from San Miguel de Salinas and Torremendo.
